Industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 refers to the fourth industrial revolution, i.e. the comprehensive digitization of industry. The term goes back to a research project of the German federal government, the aim of which was to equip industry with a high-tech strategy for the future. Industry 4.0 is about the digital optimization of the industrial value chain. The aim is for every phase of the product life cycle in industrial production to be networked with one another and connected via the Internet through intelligent and digitally networked systems and cooperation between people, machines, systems, products and logistics (see also Internet of Things / IoT).
